Take a water taxi out to St. Clement’s Island where Maryland was founded, or camp in the shadows of the Civil War at Point Lookout. Hike along a river trail at Greenwell, or fish for bluegill in quiet St. Mary’s Lake. Our parks offer wonderful opportunities for the nature lover and the outdoor enthusiast. POINT LOOKOUT STATE PARK 11175 Point Lookout Road Scotland, MD 20687 301-872-5688 www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/pointlookout.html Located at the tip of St. Mary’s County, Point Lookout has a long and rich history. It also offers numerous recreation options. 143 wooded campsites available: 26 with full hook-ups, 27 with electric. One campsite for youth groups available. Reservations for campsites are required. 710 foot fishing pier and surf fishing areas. A valid fishing license and appropriate stamps are required. Swimming beach open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Beach area has grills, picnic tables, and playground. Facilities include showers and restrooms. A boat launch facility and fish-cleaning station are available for boaters. Boat rentals and supplies at the camp store. (see also Museums and Historic Sites on page 17.) Open from sunrise to sunset year round. The Park is open for active night fishing after sunset. During the winter months of Nov.–Mar., office hours are reduced, and some facilities will be closed. Some facilities have limited operations prior to Memorial Day weekend and after Labor Day weekend. GREENWELL STATE PARK 25420 Rosedale Manor Lane Hollywood, MD 20636 301-373-9775 www.greenwellfoundation.org Greenwell offers nearly 600 acres of parkland, 10 miles of trails, and two miles of waterfront along the Patuxent River with an accessible 50 foot pier. Kayak/canoe launch sites, beach and picnic areas throughout. Wheelchair accessible facilities include the Quarter Creek Pavilion, Francis Knott Lodge (an overnight facility for up to 17 guests), and the Rosedale Manor House. The Rosedale Manor, Chapel and gardens can be reserved for weddings and special events. All inclusive programs such as horseback riding lessons, kayak rentals and lessons, summer camps, Nature Time for pre-schoolers, and other special events are offered throughout the year.
