technologies are found in a wide range of industries including: building and construction, electronics and electronic devices, household goods and personal care, packaging and paper, transportation, pharmaceutical and medical, water, food and food related, and industrial process. The company employs more than 1,000 chemical, mechanical and materials engineers around the world. While current and 2008 projected market trends for engineers in North America remain positive, Julio Correa, project manager for capital portfolio and projects in Rohm and Haas’s s Electronics Materials business, said that filling open positions in a tight labor pool is a challenge. Engineers, however, have great opportunities in high-tech manufacturing, he added. Growth in biotechnology and nanotechnology fuels the need for chemical and mechanical engineers. Materials engineers are needed to develop new materials for electronics and plastics. Indeed, the region is well positioned in the nanotechnology-related energy, biomedical and optoelectronics markets, according to a 2006 report by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice. Correa, who holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Drexel University and is now completing his M.B.A. at Drexel, joined Rohm and Haas in 2002 as a project engineer in the Paint and Coatings business.
