Schedule & Welcome RAYTHEON Wednesday, November 12, 2008 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Raytheon will provide a tour of various Missile Systems facilities within the “Airport plantsite” in Tucson, Arizona. Students registering for the Raytheon facility tour must arrange travel to Phoenix no later than Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Raytheon seeks to hire full-time employees, co-ops and interns. Majors: Mechanical, electrical, industrial, aerospace, systems, software, computer, manufacturing, chemical and quality engineering as well as physics, math, chemistry and materials science. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required. Only an original birth certificate or passport will serve as proof of U.S. citizenship. Distance: 120 miles Awards allowed to be a part of the power plant portion of the tour. APS-provided hard hats must be worn at all times in designated areas and earplugs worn when the Ocotillo Power Plant is in operation. All visitors must stay with the APS guides, and failure to follow their directions will lead to a termination of the tour. Distance: 12 miles Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Visit the nation’s largest nuclear generating facility and the largest power producer in the U.S. The tour will include a visit to the site’s Energy Information Center, a driving tour of the massive site and opportunities to interact with some of the hundreds of the Palo Verde engineers. Majors: Electrical (power emphasis a plus), mechanical, civil, chemical and materials science engineering as well as physics and math Citizenship: U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required. All visitors must bring a current government-issued photo ID: driver’s license for U.S. citizens or passport for nonU.S. citizens. Dress code: No open-toe or open-heel shoes are authorized, but athletic shoes are allowed. All tour participants must wear long pants and a sleeved shirt. Short sleeves are acceptable, but tank tops and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Distance: 50 miles necessary. Résumés will not be accepted at this time. Boeing will conduct pre-screening and interviews at the conference. Distance: 20 Miles CHEVRON Thursday, November 13, 2008 8 a.m. – Noon Chevron Phoenix’s fuel terminal tour will provide an overview of the petroleum supply chain (upstream, downstream) and marketing areas where Chevron operates as well as an overview of Chevron engineering careers and opportunities. Chevron seeks to fill positions related to project and construction management. Majors: Mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil and industrial engineering as well as construction management. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors that exhibit strong leadership capabilities as well as an interest in career opportunities with Chevron in California and Texas. Citizenship: Permission to legally work in the United States. Distance: 8.5 miles Professionals Speakers & Advisors & Networking Competitions ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE Thursday, November 13, 2008 APS - Star Center Tour 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The guided tour of Ocotillo Natural Gas Power Plant and Solar Testing and Research (STAR) Center is an opportunity for 50 individuals to learn about the energy and power industry, the latest solar technologies, renewable and sustainability programs and power plant operations. The twin boilers at the Ocotillo Power Plant tower are more than 13 stories in height, making them a significant landmark in Tempe. It has a generating capacity of 220,000 kilowatts. The natural gas/diesel oilfired plant was completed in 1960, and at the time was one of APS’ largest generating plants. Two combustion turbines were installed in the early 1970’s to increase the plant’s total capacity to about 330,000 kilowatts. Ocotillo is the site of the APS Solar Test and Research Center, one of the premiere centers in the world, where APS helps develop and test the newest technologies for converting the sun’s energy into electricity. APS’ goal and purpose for the STAR center is to learn how to produce the lowest cost electricity from the sun using current and emerging solar technologies. Majors: All engineering majors are welcome, especially those with backgrounds in electrical (power emphasis a plus), mechanical, civil and materials science. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required. Dress Code: Closed-toe, hard-soled shoes must be worn. Tennis shoes are fine, but not sandals, CROCS, flip-flops or slippers. Those with unacceptable shoes may not be HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION (UTC) Thursday, November 13, 2008 9 a.m. – Noon Participants will tour the Hamilton Sundstrand facility where electric power generation, auxiliary generators, power conversion and management products are manufactured for major commercial and military aircraft. Attendees will also receive a presentation on Hamilton Sundstrand and UTC by a senior UTC executive. Attendees will observe the manufacture, final assembly and testing of electronic equipment vital to powering commercial and military aircraft. Electrical, manufacturing and industrial engineers will take a keen interest in the tour of this facility. UTC is a Fortune 50 global technology company with a long history of pioneering innovation in aerospace, aviation, helicopter design, climate control, elevator design and hydrogen fuel cells. Hamilton Sundstrand, a UTC company, designs and manufactures aerospace systems for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft, and it is a major supplier for international space programs. UTC seeks to fill internship and full-time engineering positions in several engineering disciplines. SHPE ❘ Conference 2008 Pre-College & Teachers THE BOEING COMPANY Thursday, November 13, 2008 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Boeing Company tour is open to a maximum of 75 students. It includes continental breakfast, opening remarks, a Boeing Hispanic Employee Network (BHEN) overview and an Apache Helicopter factory tour. The tour is best suited for those with interest in structural/mechanical engineering, structural/mechanical design, electrical/ electronic engineering, avionics design, flight engineering and supplier management. Majors: B.S. in mechanical, electrical and aerospace engineering as well as computer science; those majoring in materials science and finance are also welcome. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required. Attendees must bring government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. School ID is not acceptable. Dress Code and Restrictions: Attendees must wear closed-toe shoes. Laptops, cameras and camera phones are not allowed onsite.
