SHPE - Fall 2007 - (Page 12) LeaderSHPE 2007-2008 National Board S Region VI Vice President driana Ocampo is now in the later half of her tenure as Region VI Vice President. As a Supplier Manager in the Future Combat Systems (FCS) Program at Boeing, she is responsible for establishing a supplier management plan insuring best practices are followed. Ocampo actively monitors and reports source selection activity, post award performance and supplier impact on net value. Ocampo has been associated with the St. Louis Gateway SHPE Professional Chapter since 2004, when she helped established it. Her goals as vice president include representing the members in Region VI, providing extra support to struggling chapters, encouraging the formation of new chapters and supporting professional development and community outreach. Her dedication to the Hispanic community is represented in her volunteer work to support activities such as SHPE Community Outreach, Hispanic Diversity Career Fair, and Sathya Sai Baba Medical Camp. She is also a member of the St. Louis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Boeing Hispanic Employee Network, Boeing St. Louis Leadership Association and Boeing Women in Leadership. Adriana S. Ocampo-Senior A Dr. Concepción Jimenez-Gonzalez S Region VII Vice President r. Conchita Jimenez, a manager of Sustainable Processing and New Product Support in the Corporate Environment, Health and Safety department at GlaxoSmithKline, has been re-elected as Region VII vice president. During her previous term, the SHPE lifetime member helped the region successfully pilot two programs with IBM which have since been instituted nationally. She has also served as a judge to SHPE’s Technical Poster and Paper Competitions. An active member since 1997, Dr. Jimenez was a founding member of the North Carolina SHPE Professional Chapter, where she served as vice president of professional development. Previous to that, she served as vice president and recording secretary for the Greater Philadelphia SHPE Professional Chapter and held various positions on the board of the SHPE chapter at North Carolina State University, where she earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. During this tenure, she will continue her efforts to build a stronger region through collaboration and communication as well as pioneer programs that can be replicated in other regions. D Allan Luis Morales S National Undergraduate Representative n electrical engineering graduate student at the University of South Florida, Allan Morales is SHPE’s new national undergraduate representative. The former regional student representative was instrumental to increasing Region VII’s membership by 32 percent. The growth brought SHPE’s youngest region from sixth largest to third largest among all seven regions. Morales also led the organization of E-Week activities in all seven regions, served on the organizing committee for the eastern regional and national conferences and championed the regional leadership conference at USF. Most recently, he worked with Region VII’s IBM representative to launch the IBM/SHPE Mentorship Program, which, last year, was instituted nationally. In addition to increasing awareness of AHETEM funding, Morales plans to design a business plan that continuously increases student membership. He also plans to recruit former student members as professional members who will serve as role models and mentors to current students. Finally, he intends to help other students embrace his motto: “It’s not a matter of when you get out of school but rather what you get out of it.” A Jorge R. Ortiz S Vice National Undergraduate Representative orge Ortiz’s active involvement with SHPE began when he transferred to the University of California, San Diego. The fifth year structural engineering student, who most recently completed a term as student chapter vice president, served on the committee for the western regional conference in 2006 and organized the Sixth Annual Professional Development Day at UCSD. As a first year transfer student, he co-founded the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience at UCSD. In 2004, Ortiz served as a Youth Jr. Advisor for the Hispanic Youth Leadership Council in the San Joaquin Valley, organizing regional events for high school students. Ortiz has outlined ambitious goals for his VNUR tenure. He plans to work closely with the NUR to significantly increase the student membership. He also plans to work directly with AHETEMS to inform students of its vast range of programs and funds that are now available to SHPE members.
