Not only was the feedback really positive, but it also provided relevant ideas to improve the podcast concept before launching it at the national level. In 2007, IBM will sponsor, in partnership with SHPE, four quarterly podcasts with topics such as career advancement, leadership, dealing with difficult situations and what managers look for in new hires. The first quarterly podcast was recorded before a live audience during SHPE’s national conference in January. With the theme “How to Talk to Your Manager and Really Make it Happen,” Hernandez captivated the audience with an enthusiasm and passion that translated into the digital file in OneSHPE. The second podcast was recorded in April with the participation of the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley SHPE Professional chapters. In it, three IBMers discussed “Work/Life Balance,” shared their personal experiences and best practices and addressed how they have accomplished that coveted balance. A receptive audience responded with asking the panel many of its questions. The third quarter podcast will focus on “Technology Outlook,” while the one for the fourth quarter, “Creating a Winning Team,” will be recorded at the 2007 SHPE Conference in Philadelphia. IBM and SHPE’s strong partnership has resulted in these podcasts, another valueadded benefit to propel the career success of SHPE members. Each podcast provides access to professional development advice from seasoned professionals. With these podcasts, the IBM-SHPE partnership moves one step closer to on-demand professional development for any SHPE member, anytime and anywhere.
