The SHPE Conference - formerly called the National Technical and Career Conference (NTCC) and held in January - is the largest Hispanic technical conference in the nation. This fall the Society anticipates more than 6,000 Hispanic students, professionals, corporate representatives and community leaders from around the country to attend its premier event. The SHPE Conference is essential for everyone involved in the recruitment and development of reliable, highly qualified technical talent. The SHPE Conference provides companies with the opportunity to attract new Hispanic talent, enhance diversity, market its technologies and partner with The Source for Quality Hispanic Engineers and Technical Talent. In addition, students will attend a Graduate School Hospitality Suite to meet current graduate students and speak with graduate program recruiters and faculty. Graduate Institute This two-day event is a series of focused seminars addressing graduate student issues that have an impact on Hispanics. They include writing an effective curriculum vitae, conducting an academic job search; pursuing entrepreneurship; making financial investments; understanding opportunities for non-academic research; negotiating the thesis/dissertation writing process; nurturing the advisor/mentor relationship; and learning more about post-doctoral opportunities and graduate funding. AHETEMS Travel Grants are available on a competitive basis to qualified Hispanic full-time graduate students. The application deadline for the Graduate Institute is September 7, 2007. Student Workshops Technical, career and leadership development workshops presented by representatives from the nation’s top companies and organizations will give attendees the tools and knowledge to compete in corporate America and be well prepared for the future. GRE/GRAD Lab This two-day event, co-hosted by SHPE and The National GEM Consortium, will provide undergraduate students interested in pursing an advanced degree with intense training that will make them more competitive as graduate school applicants. On Day 1, students will attend a series of sessions that focus on all aspects of the graduate school application. On Day 2, students will take a GRE practice exam and review study and test-taking tips and strategies in preparation for the actual GRE test.
