SHPE - Fall 2007 - (Page 60) SHPE CONFERENCE 2007 Design Competition The AHETEMS Design Competition is intended to stimulate the creative, intellectual and entrepreneurial spirit; develop technical presentation skills; and instill the cooperation essential in a technical design project. This competition tests the technical and business intellect of Hispanic engineering and science students in the fabrication of a cost-effective product. Competitors must research, design, build and test a marketable product and write a relevant technical paper within an allotted time frame based on the competition theme. Web Design Competition With the guidance of corporate representatives, students use their creativity and computer savvy to develop innovative Web-based solutions. The Ultimate SHPE Challenge Formerly known as Extreme Engineering, this 24-hour competition challenges students to design, develop and promote an innovative idea. Guided by representatives from sponsoring companies, the Ultimate SHPE Challenge hones the engineering skills of students by testing their imagination, creativity and organizational and business skills to get an innovative idea to market. It simulates an accelerated work environment with deadlines, presentations, reviews and obstacles. For more information contact Daniel Lozano at dannylozano@gmail.com. STUDENT REGISTRATION This year, there will only be one student registration lodging plan which includes shared, quad occupancy accommodations. Upon arriving onsite, students will be assigned four per double room (two full-size beds, same gender). Students wanting to room with certain students or friends must arrive at registration together as room space cannot be saved for students arriving later. The registration fee does not cover the cost of incidental charges, thus requiring at least one person in the room to leave a credit card deposit upon check-in. Do not call the hotel for room accommodations. To expedite the registration process, members should have their data entered on OneSHPE. This can be done by visiting www.shpe.org, selecting “join SHPE” and clicking the “apply now” button. Once their data is entered and membership paid, members will receive an e-mail instructing them to create an account in the system, from which they can register for the conference. The membership and registration fees can be paid online or mailed to SHPE National. Online registration is recommended for faster processing. On-site registration is based on availability.
