The SOLES executive board has come up with many new events to improve networking skills, academics, camaraderie, outreach and enthusiasm among members. Submitted by Samantha Kilroy Regional Student Representative Boise State University University of California, Los Angeles As the new school year starts, the incoming executive board of UCLA SOLES is preparing for an exciting year ahead. The obstacles this executive board will face have continuously increased. The board is fairly young, consisting of four new transfers starting their sophomore year at UCLA, two third year students and one fourth year student. Last year, SOLES had a large graduating class, many of whom were outstanding board members whose experience and knowledge could help the incoming executive board. The new executive board expects more than 100 new members for 2007-2008. With this increase in membership comes an important obstacle. SOLES sponsors many of the programs and events the members attend, and because of this increase in membership, SOLES will need to search for new and improved ways to earn money for another great, REGION III Colorado T Idaho T Kansas T Montana T Nebraska T New Mexico T North Dakota T South Dakota T Utah T Wyoming RSR Update I am so proud to be representing Region III at the national level. This year, I look forward to working closely with chapter leaders to ensure collaborative efforts and to develop strategies that will make Region III an even greater place to be. Throughout the summer I worked with fellow RSRs to develop a strategic plan and set the goals I would like the region to accomplish during the year. These goals include an increase in chapter membership, communication and participation as well as promoting chapter development and AHETEMS programs. For a more detailed SHPE-BSU’s membership is up by 30 percent. In the spring, SHPE-BSU was fortunate to have five devoted members graduate from the engineering program. As indicated by awards and trophies, these members provided a solid foundation to the chapter. At the same time, we were able to increase our membership by 30 percent. For the second consecutive year, we participated in the Hispanic Youth Summit which focused on high school students that have been in trouble.
