At the start of the competition, Kathleen Gonzales, Region I vice president and case study co-chair, urged all NILA participants to take their assignments seriously. “These case studies are valuable to SHPE’s National Board of Directors,” she said. “We look at every single one of them and see how we can implement the ideas.” During its recent retreat, the NBOD used case studies in for- mulating action plans in several critical areas. As further evidence, all chapters left with a revised digital SHPE Member Handbook, also a product of previous NILAs. Case studies winners were awarded an assortment of digital prizes. Whether or not they won, all participants left NILA as more confident leaders, equipped with new tools and an expanded network, capable of making a difference in their local chapters and within the Hispanic community. ■ Judges for the student and professional case studies were impressed by novel ideas. Student second place winners: Corey Rodriguez, Andrew Torres, Evelyn Taveras, Silvia Hernandez, Henry Carrero and Elfego Felix. Student first place winners: Christopher Amsler, Carlos Arroyo, Rosa Goldstein, Stephanie Orci, John Garcia and Derick Diaz.
