ETCC 2009 relaxed atmosphere for high school students from two New York City schools to network with SHPE student members. “Some of them weren’t even interested in engineering,” noted Nixy Osorio, an electrical engineering sophomore at Rochester Institute of Technology, “but we asked about their interests and related those interests with things that they could do in engineering.” This experience, as well as exchanging ideas with other SHPE members who participate in high school outreach, motivated Osorio to begin working with her chapter on programs in the local area. As for ETCC 2010, SHPE leaders are currently discussing the possibility of incorporating Region IV and Region VII Leadership Development Conferences (RLDCs) into the ETCC program.
