SHPE - Spring 2009 - (Page 48) REGIONAL ROUNDUP chapter, RLDC is an extraordinary SHPE experience to start you on the leadership path. It also is a great opportunity to network with professional members. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication and for making SHPE happen. Submitted by Delia Rios Regional Student Representative Baltimore Professional Chapter SHPE-UMD and SHPE-USNA. The friendly staff from Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis served the exquisite lunch banquet while professional and student members networked and shared experiences. Then, SHPEBaltimore President Mairim G. Ramos-Lebrón and Treasurer Douglas Orellana surprised all 30 attendees by announcing that SHPEBaltimore was paying for lunch. Great food and great company were the ingredients that made our Christmas party a delightful event. Submitted by Mairim G. Writing proposals and working with these organizations have honed our leadership and management skills. So far this year, we have held several networking events and one general membership meeting. We are also taking the lead in planning the Tulsa Engineering Challenge, an engineering competition for students in grades six through 12. In addition to adding three new competitions, we hope to double last year’s budget. Terms such as NPS, ACE, AHETEMS, NILA, 501-C3 and SHPE Jr. have become part of our vocabulary and meeting discussions. As we master this new “language,” we will continue working hard to meet the vision of SHPE National. Our greatest reward so far has been helping the Hispanic community. Submitted by Humberto Barreda, Professional Chapter President, and Chriss Chavez Tulsa Professional Chapter SHPE-Tulsa has been working closely with several engineering organizations in the northeast part of Oklahoma. In late January, SHPE joined SWE and the Tulsa Engineering Foundation to provide the first annual Tulsa Engineering Summit at the University of Tulsa. More than 70 attended the event. In mid-December, the SHPE-Baltimore familia gathered to observe the joyful celebration of its third annual Christmas party.
