REGIONAL ROUNDUP year. Our success was also recognized by RSR Delia Rios who named the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHE)Rutgers the Outstanding Medium Chapter in Region IV. Our annual SHE-SWE-MEET Computer Science & Engineering Career Fair was done in collaboration with the Rutgers SWE and NSBE chapters. Our fourth annual Multicultural Festival included a wide variety of cultural performances representing the Philippines, India, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Mexico and more. Submitted by Nair Deheza The Pennsylvania State University MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for one tenure track faculty position anticipated to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, although a higher rank may be considered for candidates with exceptional background and experience. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required. Applicants with a terminal degree in a related field should have at least one degree in mechanical engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated classroom teaching experience and government or industrial work experience. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses as well as develop externally funded research, supervise undergraduate student design teams and graduate student theses, and perform other professional duties. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core mechanical engineering courses and develop technical and graduate electives in accordance with their area of expertise. Applicants must possess strong written and oral communication skills. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a strong commitment to engineering education and offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Master of Engineering degree programs. The Department also contributes to a growing multidisciplinary Ph.D. program in microsystems engineering in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Department offers aerospace engineering, bioengineering, automotive engineering, and energy systems options to students completing their baccalaureate in mechanical engineering. The emphasis of our program is on career-oriented, hands-on education with a mandatory co-op program. Candidates are sought who can contribute to existing and developing sponsored programs in the Department and College. Our primary focus for the open position is an individual who can contribute to the growth and development of one or more of the above curricular options. We seek applicants with a strong commitment to engineering education, student mentoring, and personal professional development. George Mason University After the conference SHPE-GMU members hiked in Arizona. Over the past year, SHPEGMU has not only grown in membership but also in the commitment it receives from every individual. This year we focused on increasing the size of our chapter. The SHPE Conference inspired members to work together in surpassing every one of our goals. We’re working to introduce SHPE Jr. at a local high school because reaching young potential members is our highest priority. Our goal is to establish a SHPE Jr. in the next year. Our members are evolving into leaders that want to help our community and make a difference. Our many community service events allow us to give back to our community and instill the importance of our cause. SHPE-GMU has the potential to be great, and we The fall semester was among the most successful in SHPEPSU history. The annual Etiquette Dinner showed members how to network when dining with corporate representatives. This year’s, guest speaker, PSU alumni Julio Padovani from Air Products, shared his experiences as a Latino engineer. The SHPE and HENAAC conferences gave many members experience in networking with other SHPE chapters, corporate sponsors and Latino engineers. SHPE-PSU also raised $9,500 for THON, an annual Penn State dance marathon to benefit children with pediatric cancer. With increased membership and corporate sponsorship, SHPE-PSU is prepared for a successful spring semester. Members are building a machine for the annual Rube Goldberg competition in February. SHPE-PSU hopes to increase participation in the annual High School Leadership Conference, increase fundraising for THON and take first place in the regional Rube Goldberg Competition.
