WELCOME Focusing America’s Future ONE LIFE AT A TIME DEAR FRIENDS, When we look at SkillsUSA’s accomplishments in 2012, there’s no shortage of facts and figures to illustrate how this organization is growing and evolving to better serve students. We celebrated the highest membership in our history and unveiled the largest national conference and SkillsUSA Championships ever. Our Washington Leadership Training Institute saw its biggest turnout, website hits and Facebook “likes” soared, and, for the sixth straight year, at least 90 percent of our total revenue went right back into programs and services to benefit our members. But what continues to be so deeply life-affirming about SkillsUSA isn’t found in numbers, but in what those numbers represent: young lives forever changed by involvement in an organization that values character development as highly as professional accomplishment, that celebrates what’s given to others as much as what’s gained for ourselves, that strives to counter the age-old question, “What’s wrong with young people today?” with a shining example of what’s right. A growing number of lights are ﬂickering on across the country at this very moment as more young people discover their passion, focus and purpose through SkillsUSA. As our partners and friends, you’ve helped make those lights shine. We offer our heartfelt thanks for your support, but, even more, we hope you feel the pride that comes from sparking real, lasting and positive change. If you’re not currently a supporter, we hope you’ll get involved in what’s shaping up to be the most exciting leg so far of a nearly 50-year journey. As you’ll read in the pages ahead, it was a great 2012, but the best — thanks to you — is yet to come.
