I Susan Boyle, former sustainable redevelopment expert and assistant commissioner in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and former chief operating officer of the National Brownfields Association, has joined GEI Consultants, Inc. as senior environmental practice leader. GEI is a national environmental, geotechnical, water resources and ecological science and engineering firm. I Rosemann & Associates, P.C. is now offering structural engineering services in addition to architecture, interior design and planning consulting. Scott Rosemann, PE, LEED ® AP is the firm’s first structural engineer on staff and is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. I Nautilus Consulting announced that Ed Josiah has joined its professional staff, and will manage the new demonstrative evidence and graphics division. Thomas (Tom) Fidler, PE, was recently selected by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as a Qualified Roundabout Designer. Fidler’s qualification means that WisDOT recognizes his capability to analyze modern roundabouts against other intersection treatments and design the detailed geometry critical to the safety and performance of a roundabout intersection. I Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that it has entered into a technology agreement with Luxology LLC – maker of the modo 3D software widely used by video professionals and graphic artists. Through this agreement, Bentley will license Luxology’s super-fast, photorealistic rendering engine for inclusion in its forthcoming release of MicroStation. I Meridian Systems announced that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS) has selected Proliance® software for construction project management. GSA PBS will use Proliance software as its national enterprise electronic project management (ePM) system. FINANCE I Granite Loan Management announced that it is collaborating with Ivy Zelman, CEO of Zelman and Associates, a housing research boutique, with the creation of “Zelman’s Corner” to be featured both on Granite’s website, www.graniteloan.com, and in their quarterly news publication, Construction Lending News. In addition, Zelman will be hosting a quarterly conference call focusing on industry trends and hot topics. Zelman has over 15 years of experience covering the homebuilding, building products, furniture and manufactured housing industries at various points in her career. I The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) in late July submitted a comment letter to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) in response to the SEC’s proposed amendments to its regulations governing nationally recognized statistical rating organizations (NRSROs). MBA expressed support for measures in the SEC proposal that would promote transparency, accountability, and credibility of NRSROs and the methodologies used to assign credit ratings. However, MBA strongly opposes different ratings symbols to be used for structured finance versus other investment products. NEWS I Athletes in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games stayed at a first-of-itskind, environmentally friendly Olympic Village. The plan for Beijing Olympic Village, the temporary home to 17,000 athletes from around the world, has been awarded LEED®-Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) under its pilot LEED for Neighborhood Development certification program. It is one of only eight developments – and the first international project – to thus far achieve certification under LEED for Neighborhood Development. I Balfour Beatty Communities, LLC announced that it has finalized agreements with the U.S. Department of the Army to be its private sector partner for the United States Military Academy at West Point military housing privatization project located in Orange County, NY.
