GREENWELL STATE PARK

Nearly 600 acres of parkland, 10 miles of trails, and two miles of waterfront along
the Patuxent River with an accessible 50 ft. pier. Kayak/canoe launch sites, beach
and picnic areas. Wheelchair accessible facilities: Quarter Creek Pavilion, and
Rosedale Manor House. All inclusive programs, horseback riding lessons, kayak
trips, summer camps and special events. Park open daily dawn to dusk.

POINT LOOKOUT STATE PARK

Located at the tip of St. Mary's County, Point Lookout combines a rich history
with recreation options. 143 wooded campsites: 26 full hook-ups, 31 electric.
One campsite for youth groups. Reservations required (1-888-432-2267). 710
ft. fishing pier and surf fishing areas. A valid fishing license and appropriate
stamps required. Swimming beach open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Beach
area has grills, picnic tables, playground, showers and rest rooms. Boat launch
facility, fish-cleaning station, boat rentals, camp store. (See also Lighthouses
and Civil War Sites listings.) Open from sunrise to sunset year round. Open for
active night fishing after sunset. Reduced office hours Nov. - March and some
facilities closed. Some facilities have limited operations prior to Memorial Day
weekend and after Labor Day weekend. Occasionally fills to capacity on summer

ST. CLEMENT'S ISLAND STATE PARK

Visit the site of Maryland's birthplace. In 1634, 140 English settlers landed here
to establish America's fourth British colony. The Potomac River island features a
cross commemorating the founding as well as the reconstructed Blackistone

NEWTOWNE NECK

Maryland's Newest State Park

Cradled by Breton Bay, St. Clements Bay, and the Potomac River, the 776acre park is surrounded by water and has more than seven miles of shoreline.
The park is filled with woodlands, wetlands and trails, and offers low-impact
recreational opportunities such as biking, hiking, birding and fishing. It also
has soft kayak launch spots and beaches. Newtowne Neck State Park is rich
in history. Newtowne was the second settlement in the Maryland province
following St. Mary's City. The park is open daily dawn to dusk.

Lighthouse. Hike the 40-acre island. Pier and docking facilities, sandy beach,
picnic area. Mainland museum highlights island history. Seasonal water taxi and
lighthouse tours available via the museum. (See Museums and Historic Sites listing.)

ST. MARY'S RIVER STATE PARK

Situated at the north end of the St. Mary's River watershed in the center of the
county, the park consists of approximately 2,000 acres of land with a 250-acre
fishing lake. The relatively flat landscape of St. Mary's County is not usually
thought of as mountain biking terrain; however, the 7.5-mile course encircling
the lake at St. Mary's River State Park is a little known treasure. This course is also
available for hiking. Park open daily dawn to dusk, Apr. - Oct., and 10 AM -
4 PM, Nov. - March.
