People Helping People When Hurricane Katrina devastated the Watson* family home in New Orleans, CUAid.coop was there. When an EF5 tornado tore through Greensburg, Kan., and leveled the entire city, CUAid.coop was there. When more than a foot of rain flooded north Texas and required 125 people to be evacuated from a nursing home, CUAid.coop was there. When fire destroyed the Malibu residence of Patrick and Lisa Sinclair* and their three young children, CUAid.coop was there. CUAid.coop is the first online giving center available to credit unions nationwide. Whenever a donation is made, the funds are directed to the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) Disaster Relief Fund, which distributes the money to assist credit union employees, members and volunteers affected by both natural and man-made catastrophes. Focused on meeting a broad scope of emergency and ongoing needs, NCUF uses its contributions for critical daily essentials, such as food and water, clothing and baby supplies, shelter, and transportation. Funds are also applied to long-term recovery needs, including rebuilding or relocating and the replacement of household items and vehicles. In addition, CUAid.coop provides direct assistance to credit unions and their support organizations to help meet reasonable operational expenses.
