Now, half way through the year, we are well on our way to realizing this goal. Several months ago, the addition of the Netherlands gave us a foot in the door to the European market. India soon followed with the official signing ceremony to take place next month. By having India on board, SMEI is now officially represented in two Asian tiger countries (China previously signed). These two countries combined have a population of approximately 2.4 billion people, or roughly one third of the world’s current population. The board is in discussion with professional associations in other countries with announcements of additional alliances in the future. So what is it about SMEI that has led to this growth internationally? The answer lies in professionalism and ethics. Through SMEI’s certification programs, professionals around the world are seeking out a body of authority that will lend credence to their profession and in the way they conduct their business. SMEI’s designation of CSE®, CME® and SCPS™ bestows that recognition on individuals practicing in the sales and marketing professions. As SMEI memberships spread through the five major continents, the political and geographic boundaries between countries will diminish amongst those in sales and marketing. The common tie that will become apparent is the recognition for a need to standardize skill levels in our industry while maintaining ethical standards in the way we do business. Through SMEI certification, marketing and sales professionals will exist as one global community.
