AFFILIATES >> PERSPECTIVES What is the most important business-related concept cardiac and pulmonary rehab professions must understand to be successful? WQ: Our patients are our customers. I often refer back to the Mayo Clinic primary value: "The needs of the patient come first." If we function under this mindset, we should achieve success in terms of healing, teamwork, and innovation. This will ultimately result in business success. JV: We must be efficient and provide better quality patient care. We must embrace change and be creative with our approach. Presenting the evidence and getting involved with your local hospital quality control team will place CR/ PR on a higher priority. Convincing administration that CR/PR will lower readmissions will help them to understand the bottom line. What are your best resources for business related questions/concerns? WQ: The MNACVPR Board is an excellent resource. It's helpful to work with professionals from various health systems and backgrounds. We bounce ideas off each other and have helpful discussions regarding the business aspect of cardiac and pulmonary rehab. My programs at Mayo Clinic Health System are housed within the Rehabilitation Department. This is helpful because we work side-by-side with physical and occupational therapy. We often share common goals and questions/concerns. JV: AACVPR is a great resource for overall federal guidelines. As it relates to state regulations and insurance concerns, we have a team within our facility that works on answering any questions we have. Reaching out to other CR/PR systems with specific questions can help with day-today operations as well as providing better ideas. Does your rehab program do something unique you'd like to showcase? Submit it as an AACVPR Program Summary! Submissions are now open; register here by May 22. For more information and program summary guidelines, click here.
