Compressed Air Best Practices - September 2008 - (Page 23) Focus Industry FOOD PACKAGING & PROCESSING | 09/08 | Nationwide, Pepperidge Farm has eight main baking facilities producing bread, cookie and cracker products and frozen goods. The bread plants are designed for regional distribution. The 265,000 square foot bread-baking facility in Bloomfield is an impressive sight to visitors. “We produce nearly one million loaves of bread a week,” according to Skwiot. “We operate two bread lines and one roll line. Our fastest line makes rye bread and swirl varieties. It’s truly state-of-the-art bread baking and our plant has won the bakery plant of the year award.” A facility of this size and scope has significant energy needs, so improving energy efficiency is an ongoing concern. Currently, Skwiot is communicating with Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) and lighting vendors as Pepperidge Farm works on an energy- efficient lighting project. Pepperidge Farm is also working with Atlas Copco Compressors to take advantage of a CL&P incentive program focused on reducing energy costs for compressed air systems. “It’s truly stateof-the-art bread baking and our plant has won the bakery plant of the year award.” www.airbestpractices.com 23 http://www.smcusa.com http://www.smcusa.com http://www.airbestpractices.com
