Compressed Air Best Practices - September 2008 - (Page 39) Focus Industry FOOD PACKAGING & PROCESSING | 09/08 | The Eight Factors to be Considered Over the past ten years, much has been made about the elevated energy costs associated with compressed air. Each facility has unique applications for blow-off air and unique working conditions. Below is a list of factors that should be considered when deciding whether to use compressed air amplifiers or blower-operated systems for a blow-off application. Each factor may have a greater or lesser weight over the other depending upon each factory’s unique set of circumstances. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Availability of energy Space and weight Noise level Application particulars Reliability Energy cost System cost Maintenance and operating costs 1. Availability of Energy When choosing between a compressed air amplifier and a blower-operated system, the availability of energy can be a factor. With a blower-operated system, the cost to bring electrical power to the unit must be evaluated. For the amplifier, one must see what the piping will cost and what impact this will have on the compressed air system. If a new air compressor is required, the costs may be prohibitive. The super absorbent way to protect your air tools. Why should you use AquaChek? That’s simple. AquaChek Filters extend the life of your air tools and equipment by eliminating rust and corrosion. How? They use an advanced polymer media that absorbs 28 times its weight in water and traps unwanted particulate down to one-half a micron in size. Any other questions? The air knife produces a narrow, sharp flow of amplified air providing adequate shear force for blow-off. The air knife is compact and has an on-off control so it is used only when needed.
