Compressed Air Best Practices - January 2009 - (Page 49) Compressed Air Industry ENERGY REBATES | 01/09 | COMPRESSED AIR BEST PRACTICES ™ MAGAZINE Nine-Month Results Revenues for the nine-month period of 2008 increased $135.6 million (10 %) to $1.5 billion, compared to $1.4 billion in the same period of 2007. This increase resulted from favorable changes in foreign currency exchange rates and organic growth. Gross profit increased $27.6 million (6%) to $479.6 million in the nine months ended September 30, 2008, compared to 2007, primarily as a result of higher revenue. Gross profit as a percentage of revenues decreased to 32.1% in the first nine months of 2008, compared with 33.3% in 2007, due primarily to product mix, partially offset by operational improvements and leveraging fixed and semi-fixed costs over additional sales volume (see “Selected Financial Data Schedule”). As a result of the costs associated with profit improvement initiatives, non-recurring expenses and mark-to-market currency adjustments in 2008 and the increase in the effective tax rate discussed previously, net income decreased $6.2 million (4%) to $135.1 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2008, compared to $141.2 million for the same period of 2007. www.airbestpractices.com ADVERTISER INDEX Company Kaeser Compressor Page Outside Back Cover Web Site www.kaeser.com NPE2009 Inside Back Cover www.npe.org Atlas Copco Inside Front Cover www.atlascopco.com Hitachi 3 www.hitachi.us/airtech SPX Dehydration & Filtration 5 www.spx.com Belair Technologies 6 www.belairtech.net Jorc Industrial 7 www.jorc.com Chicago Pneumatic 9 www.cp.com Mikropor America 11 www.mikroporamerica.com Curtis Air Compressors 13 www.discovercurtis.com Awareness Ideas 17 www.awarenessideas.com Globalcon 2009 34 www.aeecenter.org/globalcon COMPRESSED AIR BEST PRACTICES™ MAGAZINE www.airbestpractices.com Advertising & : Rod Smith Editorial rod@airbestpractices.com Tel: 251-680-9154 Subscriptions & : Patricia Smith Administration patricia@airbestpractices.com Tel: 251-510-2598 Fax: 412-831-3091 A Publication of : Smith Onandia Communications L.L.C. 217 Deer Meadow Drive Pittsburgh, PA 15241 Compressed Air Best Practices™ is published monthly by Smith Onandia Communications LLC., 217 Deer Meadow Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15241.
