Hours at most museums are 10 to 5:30. The Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, located at 8th and F streets, NW, are open from 11:30 to 7. Some museums offer summer evening hours. The Arts and Industries building is closed. PLEASE NOTE Smithsonian security officers hand-check all bags and containers at the entrance to each museum. Smoking is not permitted. Service animals are welcome. Pets are prohibited. Strollers may be used in all museums. Handheld and video cameras are permitted for non-commercial use, but are prohibited in special exhibitions and as posted. Flash cameras may not be used at the African Art Museum or the Hirshhorn Museum. Tripods are not permitted; however members of the media may obtain permission to use tripods from the museum’s Public Affairs Office.
