EXHIBITIONS “East of the River: Continuity and Change” (closes Nov. 9) offers provocative insight into Washington, D.C. communities east of the Anacostia River. M COURTESY OF THE MUSEUM; ART CARTER PAPERS, MOORLAND-SPRINGARN RESEARCH CENTER, HOWARD UNIVERSITY “Separate and Unequaled: Black Baseball in the District of Columbia” (through Oct. 5) tells the stories of black ball players and their teams dating from the early 19th to the mid-20th century. The exhibition is accompanied by a traveling exhibit, “Discover Greatness,” developed by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The exhibitions are on view at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., 801 K St., NW. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 5. “Jubilee: African American Celebrations” (opens Dec. 7) examines such African American holidays and celebrations of the past as Election Day, Pinkster and John Canoe, as well as regional favorites of today, like Wilmington, Delaware’s Big Quarterly. Free tours are offered, except on holidays, for groups of 15 or more by calling 202-633-4870.
