Official Springfield Illinois Visitors Guide - 2017 - 40
Take in the fresh air
After visiting our Abraham Lincoln historic sites and
the other great attractions Springfield has to offer,
take a break from the hustle and bustle and enjoy
all the wonderful green space in the city. There are
beautiful parks across the city, including Lincoln
Memorial Garden, a 100 acre preserve on the shores
of Lake Springfield, designed by famous landscape
architect Jens Jensen. The Garden represents
nature Lincoln would have seen during his time in
Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois, and visitors can hike
the six miles of trails throughout the preserve.
Visit the Springfield Park District's website at
springfieldparks.org to learn more about the pristine
places you can visit to enjoy a picnic lunch, play
a round of golf or horseshoes, listen to a carillon
concert or visit a botanical garden. Springfield is
also a bike friendly town with miles upon miles of
bike trails to ride or walk.
