platform at Springfield's Great Western Depot on
February 11, 1861, before departing to Washington, DC.
In a voice filled with emotion, he shared his affection for
the city where he had lived, worked and raised a family.
He left Springfield on that day, never to return in his
lifetime. Abraham Lincoln called Springfield home for
nearly 30 years, and here, you will get to know him as
a father, husband and neighbor, as well as a politician.
