There are a host of beautiful parks to choose
from right in the heart of the state capital.
This 150-acre site was added to the Springfield Park
District in 1901. It is also listed on the National Register
of Historic Places. The park boasts 12 tennis courts,
paddle tennis courts, and a pro-shop, an enclosed
pavilion, band pavilion, lagoon, Washington Park
Botanical Gardens, and the Thomas Rees Memorial
Part of southwest Springfield, the 190-acre park
features a 100 ft. sledding hill, playground, multiple
outdoor picnic areas, skateboard facilities, bocce ball
courts, and four ball fields.
This is a park for the family with every inch of the
80-acres ADA accessible. The park also houses
eco-friendly wetlands, a wind turbine, solar panels and
geothermal system. There are three fishing piers, a
gazebo, and playground, with five picnic shelters,
sporting courts, sensory gardens and an urban trail.
Riverside Park has 470 acres and is located on the far
north side of town. The park is bordered by the
Sangamon River and consists of upland and lowland
forest. Northeast of the campground is a BMX Club
track. Eight baseball fields are located in the flood plain
near the river. Bank fishing and hiking are available
along the mile-long road adjacent to the river.
