Streaming Media - October/November 2007 - (Page 42) the 2007 streaming media readers’ choice awards Webcasting Appliance ■ SONIC FOUNDRY MEDIASITE First runner-up: NewTek TriCaster STUDIO Second runner-up: Accordent Capture Station Webcasting Platform ■ SONIC FOUNDRY MEDIASITE First runner-up: Netbriefings Proclaim Second runner-up: VBrick VBExpress Despite the fact that Sonic Foundry’s headquarters is mere blocks from Streaming Media’s offices in Madison, WI, the company’s victory in not just one but two categories has got nothing to do with home-field advantage and everything to do with Mediasite’s long history and broad customer base. From Sandia National Laboratories to Lockheed Martin to Clemson University, Mediasite has found a home in hundreds of locations across the globe because it offers a complete, turnkey, end-to-end capture/delivery/archive solution—the kind that, once it’s set up, even the most absent-minded professor (or CEO) can use. Despite Mediasite’s runaway victory in both the Webcasting Appliance and Webcasting Platform categories, this space is one that’s rife with established, robust, and easy-to-use solutions. Accordent’s been at this for almost as long as Sonic Foundry has, and its Capture Station is right up there with Mediasite in terms of market penetration and name recognition. NewTek’s TriCaster STUDIO added live switching and virtual sets to that popular line of appliances, which really took off in 2007, as witnessed by their first runner-up showing in the Webcasting Appliance category. In the Platform category, Netbriefings’ Proclaim is a relative newcomer that’s been able to capitalize on the company’s well-established econference tools, while VBrick continues to hold on to solid marketshare with its VBExpress Webcasting Appliance - SONIC FOUNDRY MEDIASITE Webcasting Platform - SONIC FOUNDRY MEDIASITE Congratulations to all of the nominees: Collaboration/ Conference Solution • Alpha Video • LEAD Technologies • TalkPoint • Tandberg • VectorMAX • WebEx Content Management Platform • Accordent • Brightcove • Gotuit • Monetize Media • Multicast Media Technologies • Origin Digital • The FeedRoom • thePlatform • VeriSign Content Protection/ DRM Solution • BUYDRM • Entriq • Widevine Technologies Encoding Hardware • Encoding Hardware • DVEO Division of Computer Modules, Inc. • Envivio • Snell & Wilcox • Streambox • Tarari • ViewCast Encoding Software • BroadRamp • Inlet Technologies • Interactive Video Technologies • Kulabyte • LEAD Technologies • M2 Solutions • On2 • RealNetworks • Rhozet Corporation • Snell & Wilcox • Sorenson Media • Telestream • ViewCast Global Content Delivery Network • Akamai • Internap • Level 3 • Limelight Networks • Mirror Image Internet • Panther Express • PowerStream • RealNetworks • IPTV Hardware • Edgeware AB • Sling Media • VBrick IPTV Software • BroadRamp • LEAD Technologies • NeuLion • Sling Media • VectorMAX • Vividas • WhiteBlox P2P Delivery Network • Abacast • BitTorrent • CacheLogic • Grid Networks • Ignite Technologies • Itiva Networks • MediaZone • Pando • PeerApp • RawFlow • Solid State Networks • VeriSign Regional Content Delivery Service Provider • BroadRamp • Ortiva Wireless • PowerStream • RealNetworks •Streaming Media Hosting Search and Indexing Platform • Blinkx • BroadRamp • Coveo • Gotuit Server Hardware/Software • AdobeFlash Media Server • Apple • Edgeware • Microsoft • RealNetworks • Wowza Media Systems • Streaming Radio Solution • Liquid Compass • Live365 Video Advertising Platform • Accela Communications • BroadRamp • ClipSyndicate • Digitalsmiths • Eyeblaster • Internap • Level 3 • SpotXchange • TurnHere • ValueClick Media Webcasting Appliance • Accordent • NewTek • Sonic Foundry • VBrick • ViewCast • WINNOV Webcasting Platform • Accela Communications • Digital Rapids • Interactive Video Technologies • KickApps • Media Publisher • Mediatech • Mogulus Live Broadcast • Net Briefings • ON24 • Sonic Foundry • Starbak • TalkPoint • VBrick • WhiteBlox • Women’s Online Media and Education Network 42 STREAMING MEDIA October/November 2007
