Suffolk University Sawyer Business School Graduate Programs 2008-2009 - (Page 20) MBA ONLINE suffolk’s mba online program was a natural fit for James Hunt. As software developer at Dell’s worldwide operations unit, he was accustomed to virtual communication and a team-oriented environment. “What drew me to Suffolk’s program was the global focus, diverse student body, and Boston location,” James says. “I wanted to take an intensive summer course at the Boston campus, but since I was never able to get away from work here in Austin, I really valued being in a fully online program.” James appreciated how courses such as Professor Elizabeth Wilson’s Marketing Research for Managers provided new skills he could immediately incorporate into his job. He also credits Professor Charles Atherton and other faculty for using real-world experiences and examples to make subjects like finance much more approachable. James went on to concentrate in finance. After just his second semester in the program, he became an online project manager at Dell, serving as a liaison for financial services. “My finance concentration played a major role in getting that job,” he says. “I’ve been promoted again since graduating, and I have increased responsibilities for a global portfolio of projects.” Currently, James leads a project for Dell’s online stores throughout Latin America and is participating in projects in Japan and Europe. His busy travel agenda includes trips to China, Brazil, and Panama. “The Suffolk MBA Online program piqued my interest in global business as well as finance, and has had a dramatic influence on both the direction and success of my career,” he observes. The highly interactive nature of Suffolk’s program exceeded Hunt’s expectations in many ways. “The required weekly live chat was very beneficial,” he says. “I really got to know my professors and my classmates quite well and now consider them professional colleagues.” James Hunt MBA ONLINE ’06 Online Project Manager Global Technology Product Management, Dell Inc., Austin, Texas hometown: Austin, Texas undergraduate school: Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas major: Computer Information Systems 20
