A few months into her new job at the Boston office of global investment bank Lehman Brothers, a co-worker told Meredith about Suffolk’s new program. “The Global MBA turned out to be exactly what I was looking for,” Meredith says. “The globally focused curriculum, intensive 12 months of academics, and practical internship training were a perfect combination.” Meredith concentrated in international finance within the Global MBA and sought real-world opportunities to enhance her study of global markets. Through a Global Travel Seminar in Chile, she learned about emerging business and was introduced to the US Commercial Service. She then completed a three-month global internship with the Commercial Service at the US Consulate in Auckland, New Zealand, where she assisted US companies exporting goods and services to New Zealand. After earning her Global MBA, Meredith relocated to Lehman Brothers’ New York office. Soon, she had the opportunity to move to the London office, where she now works in the Derivative Margin Group within company operations. Meredith puts her Suffolk lessons to use on a daily basis. “I am very aware of cultural differences in how things are done at Lehman Brothers in London. Fortunately, every Global MBA course emphasized these kinds of differences. I particularly appreciate what I learned in my organizational behavior class, which I often use on a macro level.” The possibilities for Meredith’s future are likely to continue transcending time zones—perhaps one day she will work in Lehman Brothers’ operations office in Tokyo. With her Global MBA and passion for international business, Meredith is bound to find success throughout the global marketplace. 22
