Knowing she needed to build her project management and business development skills and wanting to consolidate her career in the pharmaceutical industry, Danyi enrolled in Suffolk’s Executive MBA program. The program’s Saturday-only schedule was a major attraction for Danyi. She was able to continue working full-time and could put her education to use right away. “I learned how to think about the big picture and developed business skills applicable to my research projects and business proposals,” Danyi says. “I have utilized techniques from my negotiation class in my work with collaborators.” She also benefited from interacting with classmates. “Coming from different industries, we each had a unique angle from which to consider things,” she reflects. “We continue to keep in close contact.” Danyi has put her new business acumen to work within the pharmaceutical industry’s international markets. Currently, she leads a group in preclinical and clinical development sciences at Biogen Idec, a biotechnology company specializing in oncology, neurology, and immunology research and pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. Through this position, Danyi is also developing a business proposal for a biomarker study in China to identify a specific physical trait to measure the effects of a disease, illness, or condition—an idea she initiated in her field research project in Suffolk’s Executive MBA program. Eventually, Danyi hopes to advance Biogen Idec’s business development initiative and strategy for a biomarker platform in China. With her Suffolk Executive MBA and industry experience, Danyi is poised to play an important role building bridges between China’s drug research and development and the vast pharmaceutical industry in North America. 26
