Suffolk University Sawyer Business School Graduate Programs 2008-2009 - (Page 43) msf/msfb Suffolk’s Master of Science in Finance (MSF) prepares graduates for leadership roles in areas including corporate finance, investments, portfolio management, insurance, international finance, and the management of financial institutions. The Master of Science in Financial Services Banking (MSFSB) prepares graduates for commercial and investment banking, asset securitization, and for the creation of complex derivative products—for risk exposure control and marketing to corporate clients. the suffolk advantage quarter schedule/cohort program Both the MSF and the MSFSB are cohort programs that run on a quarterly calendar, with new classes enrolling in late September and March. Prerequisite courses run on a traditional semester basis and begin in early September, January, and May. Applicants should plan accordingly. We recommend taking two courses per quarter. In either the MSF or MSFSB program, you begin classes with your cohort group, meeting on the same evening each week throughout the program. The cohort structure creates invaluable networking opportunities and strong personal and professional relationships among our students. Classes are held 4:30–7:10pm and 7:15–9:55pm with 13 meetings each quarter, including two each term on Saturdays 9–11:30am and 12–2:30pm. Meals are provided for evening and Saturday classes. expert faculty Our faculty are internationally recognized as committed teachers and productive researchers. Not only do they teach the theoretical and conceptual foundations of finance, they motivate you to be a creative and innovative thinker. The Finance Department is dedicated to a vigorous program of faculty research. Our faculty present their research at national and international conferences and publish in prestigious academic and professional journals. LSAT scores may be submitted in lieu of the GMAT. • • accelerated msf for attorneys Legal decisions in the business and private sectors increasingly require financial analysis, making the knowledge gained in Suffolk’s MSF program an invaluable asset. The Accelerated MSF for Attorneys addresses the interconnected worlds of finance and law and offers attorneys the opportunity to learn important financial skill-sets at an accelerated pace. The program also opens the door for attorneys to transition into the dynamic fields of investment or corporate finance. Applicants to the Accelerated MSF for Attorneys program must be graduates of ABA-approved law schools and are required to submit documentation of LSAT (not GMAT) scores and passing the bar exam. Law school graduates also receive advanced placement credits based on previous law school coursework, reducing the program • • waiver option If you hold an MBA or bachelor’s degree in business with appropriate academic qualifications, you may qualify to waive the prerequisite MBA core and elective courses (13.5 credits). If prerequisite requirements are waived, you can complete the MSF or MSFSB in 15 months (five quarters) of part-time study. Applicants are notified of their waiver status upon admission.
