Suffolk University Sawyer Business School Graduate Programs 2008-2009 - (Page 46) MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTING sam milenkov knew he would receive an excellent education in Suffolk’s MSA program. “It was a natural choice for me. I knew the professors would be great, and as an undergraduate accounting major, I was able to waive courses, so I could complete the program in a year.” Sam Milenkov BSBA ’04, MSA ’05 Associate, Audit & Risk Advisory Services KPMG LLP, Boston, Massachusetts hometown: Burgas, Bulgaria undergraduate school: Suffolk University undergraduate major: International Business & Accounting Sam’s experience in the MSA program was all he anticipated and more. He valued the diversity in his classes and believes he was well prepared for the scope of client interactions he now encounters in his work. Other lessons helped Sam think about the accounting field and his career on a larger scale. “Many students in the program were already professionals in the business world,” he says. “This exposure together with insightful instruction from professors like Morris McInnes helped focus my accounting studies within the larger business world context.” Professional connections in the classroom brought Sam to KPMG when he shared his résumé with a classmate. Working as an associate in the audit practice of the firm’s Boston office since he graduated, Sam is building on the educational foundation Suffolk provided him. “KPMG has a very dynamic environment, and there are always new things to learn. You are working towards something, and you take on different responsibilities at each level.” The next steps in Sam’s career are clear: he will soon become a senior associate at KPMG, and by fall of this year, he will prepare for the CPA exam. Ultimately, he plans to return to Europe and to apply his accounting expertise in a broader international business setting, something for which he will be more than ready. 46
