Your job as a tax professional has grown increasingly complex, but a Suffolk Master of Science in Taxation (MST) will keep you one step ahead. The MST is appropriate for tax advisors in personal practice, at accounting or trust firms, in corporate tax management positions, or at federal or state agencies. Accountants and attorneys often enroll in the program to enhance their professional knowledge and skills. the suffolk advantage aacsb accreditation The Suffolk MST is the only AACSBaccredited program in taxation in Boston. relevant, rigorous education Suffolk’s MST emphasizes scholarship as well as practice. In addition to gaining competence in accounting, you will learn how to leverage knowledge of tax issues in a global environment. You will develop strong communication and research skills, an understanding of the policy implications of tax law, and a keen appreciation of the ethical standards of professional practice. convenience In as few as 18 months of part-time study, you can earn a Suffolk MST. Designed primarily for part-time study, the MST degree complements the experience of students who are presently working in the field of taxation. global experience MST students, with the permission of the director of MST programs, can enroll in a one-week Global Travel Seminar as one of their electives. Global seminars include international travel, academic lectures, and company visits. concentrations A variety of elective courses enable you to choose a concentration in international taxation or estate, gift, trust, and financial planning taxation. However, you are not required to concentrate in one of these areas. waiver and transfer options If you have an undergraduate degree in accounting or appropriate tax experience, you may be able to waive the accounting core courses. A maximum of nine credits may be transferred from another accredited graduate program, if those credits have not been applied toward any other degree, certificate, or diploma. A minimum of 21 credits must be earned at Suffolk University. accelerated mst for massachusetts society of cpa members (mscpa) If you are a CPA and a member of MSCPA, you can complete the MST in eight to 10 courses. A GMAT score is not required for those with a 2.7 minimum undergraduate GPA who have passed the CPA exam and demonstrated professional competence. advanced certificate in taxation (act) total credits: 15 total courses: 5 The ACT is a postgraduate certificate for tax professionals who want to stay current with evolving tax issues. To earn the ACT, you must complete five graduate electives, at least four of which must be in taxation. admission To be considered for admission to the MST program, you must complete the application process and: • Hold a US bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution (or international equivalent) Submit your official GMAT scores (unless you are a CPA with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.7; or if you have earned a JD) • joint degree and certificate programs mba/mst Please see the Joint Degree and Certificate Programs chart in the MBA section on page 19. msa/mst The MSA/MST program prepares students for successful professional careers in accounting and tax and financial management. The curriculum offers concepts, technical knowledge, and skills for immediate effectiveness. It is designed for students who do not have an undergraduate degree in accounting, or who feel their accounting training needs updating.
