The United States is one of the largest tire markets in the world
and Sumitomo has long had a reputation for providing quality
and a variety of options in the replacement tire industry.

Strategic Acquisitions
In 2005, the company and its then tire wholesale distribution subsidiary, Treadways
Corporation, embarked on expanding their tire business and acquired one of the
nation's largest marketers of automotive replacement tires, TBC Corporation.
TBC's retail operations include Company-operated tire and automotive service centers
under the Tire Kingdom ®, Merchant's Tire & Auto Centers®, and National Tire &
Battery® brands, and franchised stores under the Big O Tires® brand. TBC
markets on a wholesale basis to regional tire chains and distributors serving
independent tire dealers throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Through its Carroll Tire wholesale distribution centers, the Company
also markets directly to independent tire dealers across the United
States. Carroll Tire Company sells a wide variety of proprietary
and national brands from 43 distribution centers.
TBC markets and sells eight proprietary brands of tires throughout
North America. The Multi-Mile®, Cordovan®, Sigma®, Vanderbilt®,
Sumitomo®, Eldorado®, Telstar®, and Jetzon® brands are produced
by internationally recognized manufacturers and have a reputation
for quality, safety, and value. These brands are distributed through
TBC Brands and Treadways to independent retailers and wholesalers
throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Growth through further Acquisition
In 2012, TBC acquired Midas, Inc., one of the world's largest providers of
automotive services with over 2,400 franchised, licensed and company-owned
locations worldwide. This move expanded the total retail outlets of TBC
to over 2,700 in the U.S. and instantly increased sales reach and expanded
the services offered.
Integrated Corporate Strength
Our integrated corporate strength can be seen in action as Sumitomo
Corporation's tire department in Tokyo has leveraged assets worldwide
to further bolster the Midas® franchise, and TBC is also capitalizing
on synergies and maximizing efficiencies with Midas®.

automotive market; additionally, TBC has expanded the Midas®
product offering to include a larger selection of competitively
priced tires and services.
