That’s double the amount shelled out on pets a decade ago, with annual spending expected to hit $52 billion in the next two years. At the same time, the worldwide animal health market, excluding nutritional feed additives in 2006, was estimated at $15.25 billion with 38% of this market in parasiticides. For 2007, the U.S. animal health care market is estimated at $6 billion with 50% of this market in the category of companion animals (primarily cats and dogs). The U.S. veterinarian market for companion animal parasiticides is $800 million. SVP Launches into Field of Companion Animal Healthcare Products Recognizing these surging pet-industry numbers and the importance of our pet’s health, Summit VetPharm (SVP) entered the animal healthcare market with a commitment to protecting the health and welfare of both companion animals and companion animal veterinary practices. The new Sumitomo subsidiary, founded by veterinarians and experienced industry professionals, officially announced its entry into the field of companion animal healthcare products during the 144th annual meeting of the American Veterinary Medical Association in Washington, D.C. in July. The senior management and professional team were introduced to the veterinary community at a special reception held at the prestigious National Music Center and Museum Foundation at the Historic Carnegie Library during AVMA. With a focus on serving the veterinary community, companion animals and their owners, SVP, headquartered in Fort Lee, New Jersey, will offer a range of unique and valued product services to veterinary practices in the U.S. “The last decade has seen remarkable advancements in animal healthcare, and Summit VetPharm looks to further extend the range of beneficial veterinary pharmaceutical options for companion animals”, said Summit VetPharm’s President Julia Stephanus. “SVP will provide novel products and services which will enhance the veterinarian-client-patient relationship and help companion animal veterinary professionals grow their practices.” Companion animal health is the driving force behind the research and development of new products at SVP. 14 visions Fall 2007 With a focus on serving the veterinary community, companion animals and their owners, Summit VetPharm (SVP) will offer a range of unique and valued product services to veterinary practices in the U.S. Unique Flea and Tick Product Introduced The company recently introduced into the market Vectra 3D™, a new proven topical that effectively protects dogs against three vectors – fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.
