Visions - Fall 2007 - (Page 2) From the Editors Dear Visions Readers: A wind turbine tower, courtesy of Katana Summit, LLC. Read more on page 6. ith the recent national and international focus on “greener” sources of energy, we are seeing a shift in traditional thought about energy power sources. With this issue of Visions, we explore recent movements and advances in some of Sumitomo Corporation of America’s energy-oriented businesses. As the global climate changes, so does the corporate climate, and SCOA seeks to take its place at the forefront of new environmentallyaware energy opportunities. Our cover profile of Katana Summit, LLC, shows how SCOA’s interest in wind power addresses some winds of change in the domestic and foreign markets. This joint venture between SCOA and T-Bailey Inc. addresses the ever-growing demand for wind energy structures by manufacturing wind turbine towers at its two facilities in the United States. Perennial Power Holdings’ mission is to provide responsible, efficient and cost-effective operating and technical services for power plants. In our Visions profile, we explore how their strong O&M strategies help their Hermiston plant generate and deliver the most reliable and economic energy possible. The plant serves as a beacon and a model which will, no doubt, light the way for future acquisitions and new business lines. So how is our story on SC Rail Leasing America acquiring Southern Illinois Railcar Company (SIRC) significant to our energy theme? Well, the majority of the SIRC’s freight cars are covered hopper cars used mainly for grain and grain products, and the company is experiencing a surge in demand for transportation of corn because of increased production of ethanol, a “greener” energy alternative, in the United States. And if much of your energy is focused on your pet, our story on Sumitomo’s new subsidiary Summit Vet Pharm brings news of remarkable advancements in pet care and animal health. We spotlight their new product Vectra 3D, a new proven topical that effectively protects dogs against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, and is available only through your veterinarian. We hope you enjoy this very energetic issue of Visions.
