Visions - Fall 2007 - (Page 7) Since 2005, the U.S. wind industry is the largest annual growth market in the world. Between the manufacturing plant in Ephrata (seen above), and the new plant in Columbus, Katana Summit projects an increased output of nearly 3,000 towers just a few years from now. Germany (6%), and the progressive leader, Denmark (19%). But keeping in focus the new global initiatives to develop “clean” energy alternatives, Katana Summit predicts a financial future that is quite sunny — or in this case, windy. The outlook is potentially extremely rewarding for a U.S. supplier of wind energy technology and goods: according to a 2007 Emerging Energy Research report, the U.S. wind industry has the distinction of being the largest annual growth market in the world since 2005.With $65 billion forecast to be invested in additional wind capacity between 2007 and 2015, the United States is projected to rank first in the world in cumulative installed wind capacity with approximately 19% of global wind market share by the end of 2015. Part of the credit for the massive growth in the U.S. wind industry markets goes to the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC) — and its current four-year extension for developers of wind power. Lehmann believes that the tax credit has helped, but isn’t the only reason for the growth of the market.“The novelty has worn off in wind power; these are serious machines now, so they are actually cost-effective, even with the production tax credit not in place,” he added. “However, with the PTC in place, it’s extremely lucrative for developers to manufacture electricity with wind.” Sumitomo Corporation also expects to contribute to the joint venture in terms of procuring a variety of materials to be used for wind-power generations from different areas of the world. As Katana Summit, LLC looks toward a bright future as a leader in wind energy product manufacturing, SCOA can now position itself as a pioneer in wind energy advancement in the United States.
