Hermiston currently serves as the prototype for the burgeoning Perennial Power business model. According to Kageyama, Perennial Power accepts the current challenges of the industrial marketplace with vigor, enthusiasm and proven advancement. “Perennial Power will be expected to produce quantifiable results and will compete with external sources of this support so that Sumitomo’s international offices always have access to the most efficient and cost effective support resources available. We at Perennial Power hope to provide new resources to help Sumitomo prosper in today’s competitive power industry environment.” Sharing Our Skills With Our Worldwide Family Members of the Perennial Power team spent time in Thailand this year in attempts to grow power-based relationships in the region. “We spent a month onsite working with Sumitomo Thailand to help them prepare an offer to the government of Thailand for a modern 800 MW gas fired combined cycle power plant,” Kageyama said. “The facility that Sumitomo has offered will use the latest generation of combustion turbine technology and will be among the most efficient power plants in the world. If Sumitomo is successful with this offer, Perennial Power hopes to actively support the implementation of this important project.” Recent conferences and meetings have yielded stronger resolve, according to Kageyama. “Sumitomo will continue its emphasis on the U.S. power market, and the PPH investment strategy will be streamlined to allow PPH to keep pace with the evolving US market. PPH will continue to pursue acquisitions where superior economic returns can be achieved and maintain focus on contracted assets. US investment will focus on projects with PPA’s with creditworthy offtakers at prices and terms to meet our investment hurdle rate. Long term power purchase contracts will always be a component of a fully functioning electric supply picture.” Kageyama sees Perennial Power Holdings’ mission feeding into its goals for overall improvement. “The strategy for O&M is an integral part of the design of a project,” he said, “and will be addressed during all stages of development with the aim of delivering safe and efficient power generation through the entire project lifecycle. We focus on the effective management of planned and unplanned maintenance, and intend to implement a program of ongoing operational efficiency and process improvement. Perennial aims to improve O&M effectiveness by improving plant efficiency.” For more information contact Ken Kageyama at Ken.Kageyama@sumitomocorp.com. Sumitomo Corporation of America 9
