Subsidiary – Unique Machine LLC New Alaskan Technology Center Opens in Anchorage Unique Machine LLC Expands Its Facility to Support Growth and Embrace The Future ounded in 1973 and acquired by SCOA in 2004, Unique Machine LLC made its mark in oilfield manufacturing and threading support, although the company also serves the machining needs of other industries including construction, fishing, mining, and government. From overhaul and repair to elaborate manufacturing, Unique Machine developed the infrastructure and staff to handle all manufacturing, welding and fabrication requirements, and now the company holds its place as the largest machine shop operator in Alaska. Recently looking to meet the challenge of expanding business opportunities, Unique Machine opened a new facility near the Unique Machine headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska, this past June. Pat Hanley, General Manager of Unique Machine, said the facility, called the Alaskan Technology Center, plays a significant role in the progress of Unique Machine’s expanding business plan. “We are bringing unprecedented manufacturing capabilities and quality accreditations to Alaska to support all industries,” Hanley said. “While our focus is on the oil and gas industry, we now have the capabilities and resources to support new technology coming from all major industries.” In addition to providing oilfield services such as welding and field services, Unique Machine is also a licensed repair facility for numerous industries and specific oilfield service companies. Specific to the oil and gas industry, Unique Machine holds proprietary technology licenses for threading services from most of the major technology companies that are based in Japan, Argentina, Indonesia, England, and the United States. Back in 2007, this SCOA subsidiary became the first Alaskan company to be both API Spec Q1 and ISO 9001:2000 quality management certified for the manufacture of oilfield equipment and the proprietary threading of casing and tubing. Both certificates were obtained after extensive reviews by a committee of the American Petroleum Institute Quality Registrar (APIQR), the certifying body. As of this year, Unique Machine anticipates retaining their ISO 9001 and API Q1 accreditations while obtaining the API 5CT and 7.1 threading accreditations. “Quality has been a key component of our growth,” Hanley explained. “Having a system and culture in place that strives for continuous improvement is an on-going challenge.” Nearly a year in its construction, the Center also fulfills the plan to build an “energy complex” that had synergy with other companies promoting local manufacturing, Hanley noted.
