From the Editors Dear Visions Readers: A look at SCOA’s automotive related businesses. ars. Not only do they help us get from A to B, they’ve become part of our way of life. Americans have paid tribute to the car in everything from children’s books to major motion pictures to popular music. In this issue, we take a look at how many of SCOA’s different businesses help that tradition by contributing to the birth of an automobile. We will also learn how what we do in trade and financing directly impacts the U.S. automotive industry. Next, we travel to D.C. to learn about SCOA’s newest real estate investment. In today’s more cautious real estate climate, SCOA still manages to locate great value in key markets, as our recent K Street building purchase shows. Additionally, we report about how SCOA’s Aerospace and Defense unit is helping Japan’s next generation of regional aircraft get off the ground — Mitsubishi Regional Jet. With SCOA helping to supply advanced U.S. technology for this jet, this landmark endeavor marks the first new aircraft created in Japan since the mid-1970s. Visions also reports on the 2007 contributions of The Sumitomo Corporation of America Foundation, which was started in 2004 as a charitable organization funding research, educational initiatives, and cultural programs that contribute and support the understanding of Japan and its culture in the U.S. The foundation also provides funds for disaster relief and social services in local communities. The Second Annual Japan Day Festival, held in Central Park, is a recent example of SCOA Foundation’s cultural support.
