Visions - Spring 2008 - (Page 3) Revving the Engines of the Auto Industry – A Look at SCOA Automotive Related Businesses A ccording to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, over 16 million new cars were sold in the United States in 2006, making it the largest number of cars bought by any single country in the world. Overall, there were an estimated 247 million passenger vehicles on United States’ roads last year, according to a U.S. Department of Transportation study. It’s safe to say that Americans love their cars. Our cars have evolved into a key component of our lives. They have become as much a part of American culture as our homes. Sumitomo Corporation of America, through its vast automotive related businesses, has a hand in the manufacturing of many of the cars we love so much. Whether it’s the steel in the doors, the tires on the road, the crankshaft in the chassis, or the radio in the dashboard, chances are that SCOA may have provided a part of the car you drive every day.
