Our customers understand that we follow and document a specified EPA-certified process.” The acquisition of Pure Chem Separation also allows DCPC to work with PCS’s position as a carbon credit creator, according to Auriemma. “Some refrigerants are designated as ozone depleting substances (ODS),” Auriemma continued, “so they have ozone depleting potential and global warming potential as greenhouse gases. There are about five or six of these refrigerants, and after we pull them out of circulation, there is a very strict protocol for their incineration for what’s known as carbon reduction tons. We have worked with Climate Action Reserve in California in this process so that the specific refrigerants are removed from possible venting into the atmosphere and certified for destruction, at which point the carbon credits are created and sold on the Climate Action Reserve market. The end buyers will be major utilities and major industrial companies, so certain companies that are in excess of their emission requirements can use these credits to offset.” Auriemma also said that DCPC has“walked the walk”of corporate social responsibility during the entire life of the company because of eco-conscious processes for propellant substances. “Before it became a buzzword, our company was engaged in corporate social responsibility because aerosol propellant products have been a heavily regulated industry,” Auriemma said.“If you go all the way back to the late 1970s, you see that chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, were banned from aerosol products for ozone depletion. Our company has always been a provider of the next generations of aerosol products. Today, there’s a good deal of work being done to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in aerosol products, and our company took a lead position by working with the California Air Resource Board as well as the EPA to continue to reduce VOCs in aerosol formulas. Moving into the reclamation and recycling of refrigerant gases is a way to reduce global warming gas emissions, which is the next logical extension for us. We already had a very strong relationship with the regulatory agencies in achieving these goals, so it was a natural move for us to enter an area where we could make an impact in reducing global warming gases, and at the same time, complement our business model.” For more information, please contact Anthony Haines at anthaines@diversifiedcpc.com.
