SCOA Chemical & Electronics Group Seizes
Opportunity to Expand Benzene Business

COA's Chemical & Electronics Group is now looking to increase its
Benzene business in the coming months due to recent news of
company mergers and increased demand for the product.
Kyle Suhl, Trading Manager for Aromatics, working in
the SCOA Chemical & Electronics Group's Houston
office location, said the outlook is bright for their
business in supplying Benzene because of a recent
producer merger as well as an increase in another
company's demand.
"With this particular business," Suhl said, "SCOA
maintains a foot in the door of the ever changing,
rapidly expanding petrochemical world that presents
opportunities for asset co-investment and global
product cooperation."
"Our Benzene supplier for this particular business
is the Japanese refiner JX Nippon Oil & Energy
(JX NOE)," explained Suhl. "JX NOE is the largest
Benzene producer in Japan and the second largest
Benzene producer in the world. Our customer, BASF
Corporation (BASF), is the largest affiliate of the
German company BASF SE. BASF consumes
Benzene to produce methylene
diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), which
can be used to make the specialty
foams found in the Tempur-Pedic
brand mattress. BASF serves as one
of the largest producers of MDI in
the world."
Suhl says that big news was announced recently that
presented true growth opportunities for SCOA.
"Our supplier and customer made major announcements in the second half of 2016," Suhl explained.
"In the second quarter of 2017, JX NOE will merge
with fellow Japanese refiner TonenGeneral. This
merger will increase their reliance on exported
Benzene. Coincidentally, BASF Corporation
announced they will double their MDI capacity
in Louisiana, increasing their demand for imported
Benzene."
