QUOTE: “I live in Altadena, and I love to hike up the pathway to Echo Mountain that the old Mt. Lowe mountain railway once climbed. It was a magnificent railway that took you up the mountain, where there used to be a tavern and a hotel. The historical society has put up placards showing what that place used to look like. It’s a great hike—about 3 1⁄2 miles up—and there are waterfalls and beautiful views looking down over the city. I also like to go to Long Beach [in Los Angeles County region], where there’s a little community on the water called Naples, named after the Italian city. People live on canals there, and it has little bridges that look like something out of Venice, Italy. Gondoliers will take you on rides along the canals and waterways. They sing love songs in Italian and they have beautiful voices. Nearby, you can stop for a bite at the Belmont Brewing Company, which has outdoor dining overlooking the ocean.” INFO: Disney’s California Adventure® Park: www.disneyland.com; MT.
