Our panel of leading women engineers and technologists will discuss current trends in engineering and some of the foreseeable work force challenges. The panelists will also provide their envisioned future for the practice of engineering, the characteristics of the engineering work force, and the skill sets required as we approach 2020. Eleanor Drew is a managing director of Lehman Brothers in the Information Technology Division. She currently manages a global team that provides consolidated reference data services to the Global Lehman Brothers franchise. In her 17 years on Wall Street, her career has taken her through analytic programming, database management, strategic planning and execution. Drew’s work has given her a unique insight into the challenges facing capital markets firms and women engineers in particular. Lisa Hornsby, vice president, global consumer process engineering at Dell Inc., has held various leadership roles in both commercial and consumer service, most recently taking over the newly combined global process engineering team. Before joining services, she spent over four years in Dell Americas Operations, supply chain and logistics. Prior to coming to Dell, she spent nine years in the consumer products industry working with large customers, such as Wal-Mart, to manage their forecasting, purchasing, replenishment and inventory management processes. She has also spent time working with e-commerce and feels her strongest areas of expertise are in operations, both from a supply chain and now a services perspective. Hornsby has an undergraduate marketing and M.B.A. degree from the University of Dayton and resides in Volente, Texas. Nan Mattai is senior vice president of Rockwell Collins Engineering & Technology. Additionally, she is a corporate officer of Rockwell Collins. Mattai is responsible for Rockwell Collins’ Engineering & Technology organization, including the Advanced Technology Center. She is responsible for guiding the future technology direction, technology investment decisions, and the development of advanced technologies to meet the needs of various parts of the business. She was appointed to the position in November 2004. Previously, she served as vice president, government systems engineering, a position to which she was appointed in 2001. She joined the company in 1993 and has held positions of increasing responsibility, including senior director of Tactical Communications, Government Systems. Mattai is a member of the advisory board, Aviation Week Strategic Media & Conferences; an executive member of the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium; a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); a member of Women in Engineering and a member of the Iowa State University Institute for Physical Research and Technology Industrial Advisory Board. Mattai graduated from the University of Windsor, Canada, with a master’s degree in nuclear physics and completed all graduate courses for a doctorate in physics. Celeste Null is currently director of biomedical engineering in the Digital Health Group at Intel Corporation. Null has held engineering management positions in all facets of semiconductor manufacturing, including product, process, and technology development, as well as design, qualification, and customer engagements. Her path-finding work has included development of quality systems, chaos modeling in risk management, automated product qualification systems, operation/planning development, and software quality engineering. She was a key developer of Intel’s initial biotechnology strategies and is recognized as a principal engineer in Intel’s Technical Leadership Program. Null has a B.S. in microbiology and chemistry from Texas Tech University; a master’s in bioengineering, minor in statistics, from Arizona State University; and is currently completing her doctoral work in bioengineering at ASU in bioelectricity and neuroscience. Rhonda I. Zygocki is vice president of Policy, Government and Public Affairs for Chevron Corporation. In this capacity, she oversees U.S. and international government relations, all aspects of communications, and the company’s worldwide efforts to protect and enhance its reputation. A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, Zygocki graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Upon graduation, she joined Chevron Canada Resources in Calgary, as a petroleum engineer, working primarily in Western Canada operations. Zygocki has served in various positions of increased responsibility for Chevron Corporation and was appointed to her current position in May, 2007. Lisa Frehill, Ph.D., panel moderator, is the executive director of the Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology. She holds a doctorate in sociology with a minor in systems engineering and a M.A. in sociology from the University of Arizona. Her bachelor’s degree is in industrial engineering from General Motors Institute, now Kettering University. Prior to coming to CPST in July 2006, she was an associate professor of sociology at New Mexico State University, where she is now an adjunct faculty member. She is currently working on a series of articles for SWE Magazine that uses newly collected data about U.S. engineers. SWE CONFERENCE 2007 201
