SWE - Spring 2008 - (Page 10) READERS’ FORUM Dear Editor: I have just finished reading the Winter 2008 issue of SWE Magazine. You are to be congratulated on producing a firstrate publication. The coverage of the conference made me sad that I could not attend this year. I would love to meet the Achievement Award recipient. I do have a question. In the conference writeup, mention was made of a new SWE logo. Has this replaced our standard gear design? If so, I am really disappointed. I think it was appropriate for the conference and I like the idea of putting “We” in SWE. However, I don’t think it is appropriate for the official logo of an engineering society. I continue to be amazed at the increased influence that SWE is having on the engineering profession. It is really gratifying to have our organization in a leadership position. It has been a long time coming, but I think that we will continue to lead. Susan K. Whatley SWE Past President 1985-86 Reply: Thank you for your thoughtful letter and observations. We appreciate your taking the time to write. To answer your question, the “WE07” logo is used only for the conference. We use a conference logo in addition to the Society’s traditional gear logo. The conference logos often have changed from year to year. Now, however, we are using the same logos for a few years to provide some consistency in the promotion of the conference. The promotions will always carry the SWE logo as well as the conference logo. We apologize for any confusion, but there’s no need to be concerned — neither the SWE logo nor the way it has been used is changing.
