SWE - Winter 2009 - (Page 12) Engineers Week 2009 As the momentum for EWeek builds, the National Engineers Week Foundation continuously updates its Web site to provide information on the numerous outreach events taking place across the United States. he Society of Women Engineers is among the more than 100 professional societies, corporations, and government agencies that make up the National Engineers Week Foundation. The coalition is committed to raising public awareness of engineering as an alluring career and demonstrating how the contributions of engineers benefit society. The EWeek activities reach out to thousands of young people, their parents, and educators in hopes of inspiring the future engineering work force. Co-chairs for 2009 are Intel Corporation and the National Society of Professional Engineers. In keeping with a broader and deeper commitment to diversity in the profession, the Engineers Week Diversity Council was formed in 2007 to bring together engineering and diversity organizations to create a unified national strategy. The coalition relies on the individual strengths and interests of its members to formulate a stronger, wider-reaching platform from which to present its message on issues that affect all of us as engineers. Embracing the popularity and power of social media, in 2008 EWeek made its debut on YouTube. “Discover Engineering” produced videos about engineers for a sustainable world, computer designers and creating virtual worlds, and a piece titled “The Amazing Solar Decathlon.” Visit http://www.youtube.com/user/NEWFDE to view these fascinating productions.
