Shannon Venable’s poem, “SWE – Building Bridges” took first place. Second place was Kate Van Dellen’s thank you letter to the founding women of SWE. The third place, by Nancy Hunley, was titled, “How a Member of SWE Saved My Career and My Marriage, and Propelled Me to a Life of Challenges and Rewards.” The conference ended on a high note with the “Celebrate SWE!” event. In a switch from previous years, the evening began with a formal reception for the Distinguished New Engineers, Fellows, and Distinguished Service Award recipients. Following dinner, the regions competed for the Spirit Award, showing off their creativity through songs, dancing, and skits. Region F took home the coveted prize. With the help of a local comedy team, the evening continued with fast-paced humor as the section, region, and collegiate awards were given, as well as the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, Outstanding SWE Counselor Award, and Outstanding Collegiate Member Awards. The ribbon cutting signified the opening of the Career Fair on Thursday evening. SWE WINTER 2009 43
