The Pitch Pipe - October 2008 - (Page 25) resent their chorus. As we strive to promote the image of real women through the new membership campaign we believe that offering images of actual members of Sweet Adelines International will help maintain our initiative. Using these photos is as simple as clicking on the photo of your choice to download. Add them to your Web site, send them through e-mail or use them to create customized advertisements. We will continue to add new photos to this site for your selection and request that members submit print-worthy photos of their chorus members to Ann-Marie Dowling at ann-marie@sweetadelineintl.org. Take your camera everywhere you go with your Sweet Adelines buddies, whether you are performing, rehearsing or just spending time together outside of the chorus. Several additional resources can also be found through the new online marketing center that we hope will help launch your next membership drive. The commitment and dedication that Sweet Adelines members invest into this organization have inspired us to develop a center designed to simplify your lives. We hope you find the value in the resources available and that they become a staple for your marketing efforts. To access the Marketing Center go to www.sweetadelineintl.org and click on the Members Only link at the top of the page. Log in with your username and member ID number for your password. Check the marketing center regularly for new items, as this is a continuous work in progress. Please send your suggestions and comments on the new campaign and marketing center to ann-marie@sweetadelineintl.org. Your feedback is vital in building a stronger, more prosperous organization. Radiate your passion and inspire women to become part of something extraordinary! new music reviews By Lynnell Diamond, Red RockAppella Chorus, Region 21 Are you looking for an exciting new uptune for competition? Then be sure to look at At The Mississippi Cabaret, a great old song that’s been arranged masterfully by CMA Doris Twardosky. This arrangement, rated medium, is very singable and entertaining, and is strong barbershop competition material. Certified Music Arranger Jo Lund has added two new titles to our list of published arrangements, both of them entertaining uptunes. Two (Four) Of A Kind is a great tune for a quartet, with lyrics that describe working together as a team. It’s a wonderful song to get a performance off with a bang. It’s rated medium, and could be performed in competition. Let Me (Us) Entertain You is another fine song with fun lyrics and an attitude. This arrangement is best for shows, and is rated medium. Lund’s arrangement captures the entertaining spirit of the original song from the musical “Gypsy.” This arrangement would also make a great opening number for show performances, but is not recommended for competition. Charlene Yazurlo’s arrangement of Auld Lang Syne is ready just in time for the New Year holiday. Yazurlo has written a lovely verse for this traditional Scottish song, and the arrangement is rated easy for all performers. Sharon Holmes, CMA, creates a poignant plea in her arrangement of a beautiful 1940s ballad, Don’t Take Your Love From Me. The arrangement is haunting and powerful, and would be a good choice for competition. It is rated medium, and is suitable for both choruses and quartets. I Get The Blues When It Rains will bring audiences to their feet. Arranged by Anita Barzilla, CMA, this creative arrangement of an exciting song will showcase accomplished choruses and quartets at their best. It is rated difficult, and is best for singers performing at higher levels. For those ready to tackle its challenges, it could be a powerful competition song. Filling out our list of new offerings is CMA June Berg’s arrangement of a nostalgic ’50s swing tune, Good Night, Sweetheart, Good Night. Berg incorporates the familiar bass line that makes this song a favorite. It is rated easy/medium, and will have audiences swaying in their seats. It is best suited for show performances. We welcome submissions for consideration for publication by Sweet Adelines International.
