The Pitch Pipe - January 2009 - (Page 11) By Ann-Marie Dowling, Membership Coordinator Within the past year many new and constructive resources have been implemented to help members create effective membership campaigns. A series of Webinars was launched in January that sparked campaign development and got members’ marketing knowhow up to speed. Some of you may be asking, “What is a Webinar?” Simply put, Webinars are just like a conference room based seminar; however, participants view the presentation through their Webbrowser and listen to the audio through their telephone or computer speakers. A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements —the ability to give, receive and discuss information. Presenters have capabilities to share their computer screens with attendees, talk to attendees, take questions, survey attendees and record the session for future viewing. Contrast that with a Webcast, in which the data transmission is one way and does not allow interaction between the presenter and the audience. The Membership Committee has worked with international headquarters to develop two Webinar sessions that will run quarterly throughout the year. The first Webinar session on Marketing Your Chorus was scheduled on January 8, 2009, and was presented by Membership Chair Kathy Carmody. The second Webinar scheduled for Thurs., Feb. 26, 2009, will discuss Membership Orientation. All individual members are invited to attend these Webinar sessions for free. Both sessions offer opportunities for Sweet Adelines members to understand their responsibility and the responsibilities of others when marketing their chorus and helping new members get acquainted with their chorus and the organization. Logging on to a Webinar session is as simple as sending and viewing e-mails, making a phone call and/or Extended Online Resources NEW: Sweet Adelines International Member Webinar Series watching an online video. When you find a session that you would like to join, simply send an e-mail to Membership Coordinator Ann-Marie you through the session by sharing her desktop screen and utilizing a combination of presentation slides, Web sites, documentation, etc. for attendees to view. The presenter will also leave time throughout the session to take verbal questions from attendees. To attend a live Webinar you will be provided a link only at the time the session is scheduled to start in order to download the Internetbased software program. This is a very secure software program that requires minimal space on the average computer. You will also need a reliable, high-speed Internet connection to access the video portion of the Webinar. A phone connection or computer speakers are required to access the audio portion of the Webinar. More information on system requirements will be available after you’ve registered for a Webinar. It is likely that after you’ve attended the session, you will be excited to share it with others.
